General Guidelines for the Submission of Papers to Gold Bulletin

Submission of Articles

Submission of an article is understood to imply that the article is original and is not being considered in this form for publication elsewhere. Authors are encouraged to take advantage of the fact that Gold Bulletin is printed in full colour

The articles should be sent to

Contributions are accepted on the understanding that the author has obtained the necessary authority for publication. On acceptance of an article by Gold Bulletin, authors will be asked to transfer the copyright to the publisher. This transfer will ensure the widest possible dissemination of information.

Preparation of Typescript

1    Where possible, the paper should be written in Microsoft Word, with the main text preferably in Arial 11 point.

2    The figures and diagrams should be provided as separate files and NOT in the word document. We will not accept manuscripts with embedded artwork. The publisher will place figures into the text for you in the appropriate place. The figures are acceptable as eps, jpeg and tiff files. Other formats can be accepted. All photographs need to be supplied high resolution. Please contact the Technical Editor for more details if required

3    Figure and Table captions should be in Italics. The references should be numbered consecutively (in brackets) throughout the text and collected together in a reference list at the end of the paper written in the form:

i.e.    Authors Names, Journal name, Year, Volume number, page number

e.g.    H. Bonnemann, Inorg. Chem, 1993, 32, 5167.

4    There is a limit of 4 pages plus figures and tables for scientific papers. Any longer papers need to be justified and will only be published at the Editor’s discretion. In the case of reviews, longer papers may be accepted at the Editor’s discretion but if too long, they may be split over two issues. Please refer to current issues of Gold Bulletin for an indication of general length. A typical Gold Bulletin page equates to about 2 pages of A4 typescript.
5   Authors should supply a short ‘CV’ for the ‘About the authors’ feature at the end of the paper. This should be no more than 80 words per author or, if more than 2 co-authors, no more than 250 words in total. A portrait picture of each author (in colour) should also be provided to accompany this section. .

Types of contribution

  • Papers: dealing with research and practice, typically 2,000 up to 4,000 words plus figures and tables. There is a limit of 4 pages of text plus figures & tables (except in special circumstances and at the Editor’s discretion)
  • Short Note: preliminary announcements of the results of topical research or accounts of limited investigations or of new techniques, typically 1,000 – 1,500 words plus up to 4 figures and/or tables.
  • Critical review: should deal with their subject in broad perspective, examine the current position critically and comprehensively and look to future developments; typically 4,000 – 5,000 words plus figures and tables and well referenced.
  • Conference reports: should be succinct and focused on topical aspects of gold in relation to conference theme and presentations, set in context. These should normally be 2,000 words maximum plus figures

Submission of Electronic Text

Text should be, preferably, submitted by e-mail to the Technical Editor. An additional copy on diskette with a hard copy and original figures may also be required.

Language

Articles are published in English, and they should be submitted in this language unless special permission has been sought from the Technical Editor.

Proofs

Authors will receive one copy of the proofs as pdf files by e mail which should be corrected and returned to the Technical Editor as soon as possible. No new material may be inserted in the text at the time of proof reading. Note: Undue delay in returning corrected proof may result in the article being deferred to the following issue

Reprints

Authors will receive a pdf file of their paper for their personal use. If required, upon request, up to 10 colour photocopies can be supplied in addition. This recognises that some authors may not have ready access to a colour printer.

Copyright

Gold Bulletin will normally retain copyright over articles published in Gold Bulletin, unless prior agreement is obtained by the authors. There is no objection for authors to reproduce figures and tables in other articles published elsewhere, provided the original source is acknowledged.

Note: The editor reserves the right to accept or reject an article, whether submitted speculatively or by invitation, and cannot guarantee publication in any given issue of Gold Bulletin, although every effort will be made to publish as soon as possible after acceptance.
